Thai senator killed his personal secretary

Mae Hong Son Senator Boonsong Kowawisarat
Boonsong Kowawisarat, a 56 year old Thai senate representative of Mae Hong Son, shot a lady with an uzi 9mm pistol at a dining table. According to the senator, the demise of Chanakarn Detkard who was also her personal secretary, was a tragic accident.

The senator and her personal secretary were on their way to Bangkok in the former's car. They stopped to have a dinner in tambon Mae Keng.

While waiting for their meal, the senator took out the weapon and tried to remove a stuck bullet. But the gun accidentally discharged, fatally injuring her personal aide.

"It was my gun. I showed her the gun that I had bought for her. She lived with her mother and our two daughters -- there are only women in her place -- so I wanted her to have it as I'm worried about them," he told AFP by telephone.
"My hand is not in good condition. I am ill. I had a stroke," he said. "It was an accident."

According to the police, pressing charges will be unlikely since the incident involved family and friends. But if he will be sentenced, a maximum of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of 20 thousand baht is just waiting around the corner.
