American accent better than British?

A growing number of students in Hongkong prefer to have the American "twang" as opposed to the accent of their former rulers - the British accent.

Some parents believe that American accent is more relevant in the workplace nowadays, especially if their kids are going to study or work overseas, particularly in the west.

How about you? Which accent do you prefer?

Accent in general when we are talking about learning the language is only limited in its relevance. Learning a language requires the training of listening skills to adapt to the different accents of English Speakers. Schools should therefore not monopolize its English teachers to American accents only but they should allow their students to learn different accents. Remember that English is a global language and it is spoken by many countries with their regional accent.

As a language teacher, I often told my students that they shouldn't focus on learning the accent alone. What's the use of accent if their English isn't that good?

English is indeed a global language. However, some parents are clouded that certain accents, say, the American, is better than other accents. And I don't see them dropping that idea anytime soon.

Saying the term " US accent" is void of meaning when we are not subjective to reasons why it was so.

I prefer using to term " American English"

America alone, even though they are English speakers but their accents differ. There are southern accents, the latino-style accent and also the kind of Kanye accent.

I stand corrected. I was originally thinking of naming this post "American Accent..." but for some reason I wrote "US". Thanks for bringing it up anyway. Now it's changed.

As for Kanye accent, what does that mean?
