Government To Government Rice and Trade Agreement Between Thailand and the Philippines
As the ASEAN Integration comes in full swing in 2015, member states such as Thailand and the Philippines are doing business to help boost their respective economies and be of help to their respective citizens.
Rice trade agreement
The signing of a rice and trade agreement between the two countries has been approved by the junta. It's been reported that the Commerce Ministry is going to be in charge of the said deal after the National for Peace and Order (NCPO) gave it full control and authority to carry out the governmenttogovernment (G2G) deal with the island nation on rice sales.
The content of the draft agreement is reportedly similar to that of the previous one, except for the expiration date, which has been extended to December 31, 2016.
Under the contract, Thai officials will be able to seek direct negotiations with the Philippines government as well as engage in reverse auctions.
It can be recalled that the previous government had a similar G2G deal which was met with harsh criticisms due to massive corruption. It was also the same deal which resulted to the ousting of Yingluck Shinawatra as the country's prime minister.
