The visit with former secretary-general Dr. Surin Pitsuwan together with his siblings overseeing the schools their great-grandfather established nearly 8 decades ago in Nakorn Si Thammarat, was now set in cement that they need 3 and not 2 Pinoy teachers which I previously mentioned.
According to Dr. Surin, an experienced Thai politician who is also the country's former foreign affairs minister, two Filipino teachers will be deployed in the high school level while 1 Filipina (very specific no?) will be the one responsible for elementary kids in another campus located about 20 kilometers away.
Prateepsasana Islamic School (The Torch/Light of Islam) was established in 1941 at the foothill, a few kilometers to the west of Amphur Muang, Nakorn Si Thammarat.
From 50 plus students in the early 1940's, the school continues to evolve and has now over 100 teachers and 2,153 students in three different campuses.
Who are the ones Dr. Surin wants to be part of his school?
"I want teachers who are the same as the ones in Sapansam School," Dr. Surin said. "Active, creative and know how to connect to students to bring out the best in them," he added.
It can be recalled that Dr. Surin paid "English for All" project a visit in Phitsanulok earlier this month and was impressed as to how Pinoy teachers in Sapansam School can turn their classes into a fun and enjoyable atmosphere even with very limited resources.
Teachers will receive...
- 20,000 baht/month
- free air-conditioned room
- 3 meals a day
- health insurance
- free visa/work permit
- free tickets upon completion of contract every year (round trip Nakorn - BKK) and (round trip BKK - Manila)
When is the start of the class?
Teachers will start reporting on the 1st of May but classes will start on the 4th. Visa and work permit will be processed at the end of April.
