PRC Releases Official Statement on Abolishing CPD Law

Most OFWs are one with licensed professionals in the Philippines clamoring for the abolishment of the Continuing Professional Development or CPD. Just recently, netizens shared different news circulating on social media claiming that the Bill has already been approved which means professionals won't be required to get CPD units anymore.

However, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has released its official statement regarding the said news claiming that the Senate Bill that aims to formally put an end to the implementation of the CPD Law is false.

PRC made it clear that the Senate Bill No. 2073 or an act to Repeal the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) law instituted by Senator Ralph Recto, is going to undergo certain process. The new law is also new so it will take time before it could amend the law.

Below are quotes from the official statements released by PRC.
"This is to clarify that the above mentioned is a newly filed pending Senate Bill and still has to pass through the required deliberation, including the counterpart measure in the House of Representatives, before it could amend an existing law."
"CPD is essential for any professional to deliver services that comply with the latest standards of quality, efficiency, safety, among others.  It also ensures compliance with regulatory laws, and international commitments by professionals."
"PRC and the Professional Regulatory Boards have put in place initiatives to address issues of affordability and accessibility.  Guidelines are being prepared to standardize seminar fees, crediting of professional activities and online courses."
